Porto is easy to explore on foot in 2 or 3 days. The must-sees? The UNESCO-listed Ribeira district, a port wine tasting in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, the stunning Lello bookshop, São Bento station, the Dom Luís bridge and a cruise on the Douro.

Panoramic view over Porto at sunset

Planning your first trip to Porto and not sure where to start? Don’t worry: let us take you around our favourite city, the one you fall for at first sight. Follow the guide!

Getting lost in the Ribeira

This is where Porto’s heart beats. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ribeira lines its colourful houses along the Douro. Wander the steep little streets, settle on a terrace, and climb up to the cathedral (the Sé) for the finest view over the city and the river.

Tasting port in Vila Nova de Gaia

Cross the Dom Luís bridge and there you are: the port wine cellars await on the other bank (Graham’s, Sandeman, Taylor’s…). History, visit and tasting: this is the one experience not to miss. Our tip? Pick a more low-key cellar to dodge the crowds.

Looking up at the finest landmarks

Porto is full of architectural gems. Here are the ones we love to show off:

Escaping to the Douro Valley

Just an hour from Porto, the Douro Valley unfolds its terraced vineyards as far as the eye can see. By train, car or boat, it’s the day trip that will leave you starry-eyed.

Eating like a true portuense

Francesinha, grilled sardines, bacalhau… In Porto you eat well and cheaply, as long as you know the right spots. And that’s our speciality: we only send you to local tascas, far from the tourist traps.

Fancy a tailor-made programme designed by locals who love their city? Tell us everything, we’ll take care of the rest.
