The best time to visit Porto runs from May to September, with mild, sunny weather. Our advice: aim for spring (May-June) or early autumn (September) for the perfect balance of good weather, gentle prices and peace and quiet.

The Douro Valley and its terraced vineyards

When should you go to Porto? Great question! The city is worth visiting all year round, but some seasons are real favourites of ours. Here’s the lowdown, month by month, to pick the ideal moment.

Spring (May-June): our darling

This is our favourite season, by far. Temperatures are ideal (18-24°C), gardens are in bloom and the city isn’t yet overrun. Perfect for exploring Porto on foot and lingering on sunny terraces.

Summer (July-August): sun and festivities

High season: glorious weather, a festive buzz and, in June, the incredible São João celebrations. The trade-off is more people and higher prices. Our tip: book well ahead!

Autumn (September-October): mellow days

September is summer at a calmer pace, and it’s also harvest season in the Douro Valley. A magical time to discover the vineyards and taste the first fruits of the crop.

Winter (November-March): savvy and crowd-free

Milder than elsewhere in Europe (often 10-15°C) but rainy, winter is perfect for a budget, authentic city break without the crowds, with the bonus of festive Christmas markets.

In a nutshell

Whatever the season, we know the good spots to enjoy Porto at the right moment. Shall we build your trip together?
